A pathway typically used daily in a home is the garage entry. This is where you bring in groceries, the kids come in after school, and your pets gain access to the outdoors. While convenient, your garage entry can quickly become dirty. The perfect entry design can reduce the accumulation of dirt, leaves, debris, and other messes. This will protect the rest of your home from wear and tear on the flooring and other items.
Coming up with storage
It’s important to have an area where everyone in your home can leave their items when they come inside. This includes space for purses, backpacks, sporting equipment, shoes, coats, and more. By creating a drop zone in your entryway, you can minimize the amount of dirt that spreads to the rest of your home.
A bench or seating area is convenient for sitting down and removing shoes. You can find fixtures that also store your shoes, keeping them out of the way. You can also use boot trays to keep moisture and dirt in one location before they are put away. If your boot trays contain absorbent pads, check whether they are machine-washable. This will save you significant effort.
Hanging hooks on the wall frees up floor space while allowing easy storage of coats and bags. You can also incorporate cubbies and baskets for the storage of personal items.
Consider your flooring type
The flooring in your entryway can affect how messy the area is. Choose a flooring type that is durable and resistant to moisture and dirt. It’s likely people will be walking through this area with their shoes on, so it should also be resistant to scratches.
Tile flooring is extremely durable against water, dirt, and damage. It’s also easy to mop or sweep when dirt builds up. Vinyl plank flooring is designed to be highly durable while maintaining the aesthetic appeal of hardwood. It’s a good idea to avoid using carpet in this area as it will experience damage quickly.
Focusing on your outside system
There are methods you can use inside your home to keep your entryway clean. You can also use the area outside your home to keep dirt from coming inside. Use a rug or rubber mat system outside your entryway door. Dirt and moisture will collect here, keeping messes at bay. You can also have storage areas outside for work boots and very messy items that shouldn’t come indoors. Outdoor lockers and cubbies are another great storage option.
